Swedish massage in Mississauga

If you are looking for a full-body relaxational massage treatment, then Swedish Massage is for you. This form of therapy is known as “the best-known type of bodywork performed today”, with the primary goal of the technique focusing on relaxing the entire body. In your appointment your Registered Massage Therapists will perform this treatment by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. Swedish massage therapy goes beyond relaxation and has been proven to be exceptionally beneficial for increasing the levels of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving your body’s circulation and flexibility, all while easing tension. An article in the New York Times reported on a research study involving volunteers who had a 45-minute Swedish massage. The research found that volunteers who received Swedish massage experienced significant decreases in levels of the stress hormone cortisol in blood and saliva, and in arginine vasopressin, a hormone that can lead to increases in cortisol. They also had increases in the number of lymphocytes, white blood cells that are part of the immune system. Volunteers who had the light massage experienced greater increases in oxytocin, a hormone associated with contentment, than the Swedish massage group, and bigger decreases in adrenal corticotropin hormone, which stimulates the adrenal glands to release cortisol.

Traditional Swedish Massage is the most common type of massage that we employ but our therapists also incorporate other massage techniques, such as Deep Tissue Release, Thai Massage, Shiatsu Massage, Cranial Sacral Therapy and Trigger Point Therapy, to name a few.

After my massage therapy appointment, do I need to do anything?
It is recommended to have an Epsom Salt bath to soothe and calm muscles, and enhance the benefits of the massage. It will help with muscle stiffness you may feel the next day. Epsom Salts are great after a workout also. Add 2 cups of Epsom Salts to a very warm bath. Drink plenty of water when you are in the tub and afterwards to keep the tissues and yourself hydrated.
